After missing the Supercup, the DFB Pokal and MD1 in the Bundesliga, goalkeeper Roman Bürki is reporting back from a shin injury.
The first competitive match of the season comes for the Swiss goalkeeper “late as never before.” The 28-year-old, who suffered a tear at his shin that required stitches during the training camp in Bad Ragaz, told Kicker: “this break was long and vexing. I’m not wishing for something like that again.”
Bürki was looking forward to playing against Augsburg last Saturday but goalkeeper coach Matthias Kleinsteiber ordered another full week of training according to the sports magazine.
But now he is ready to make Dortmund’s defence even better looking and prolific in build-up play while taking his place between the sticks. He replaces his fellow countryman Marwin Hitz, who played well in his wake. “I’m feeling good,” Bürki said, adding: “I made another step forward this week.”
Dortmund will face 1. FC Köln at the RheinEnergieStadion at the Friday Night Game to kick off Matchday 2 in the Bundesliga.
