BVB coach Lucien Favre will have to make do without 10 players. Mateu Morey will be sidelined for weeks due to a pulled hamstring. Also unavailable are Raphael Guerreiro, (muscular problems), Marwin Hitz (private reasons), Reinier, Marco Reus, Thomas Meunier, Mahmoud Dahoud (training post-injury), Giovanni Reyna (heel issues), Dan-Axel Zagadou (knee injury) and Marcel Schmelzer (rehab after surgery).
Backline stretched thin
Generously counted, the backline currently has eight players for four positions available. Two learned centre-backs (Hummels, Akanji), two stop-gabs (Can, Piszczek), while the latter is the only remaining right-back.
For the left-back positions, there are two players whose strengths are not in a back-four (Guerreiro, Schulz). The former is nursing muscular problems, the latter is out of form. In the meantime, Felix Passlack and Marius Wolf, who are not in Dortmund’s plans, are helping out.
