BVB midfielder Jadon Sancho revealed that Christian Pulisic inspired his move from England to Dortmund.
Then 17-year-old Sancho joined the Black and Yellows in 2017 from Manchester City’s youth academy. The London-born youngster, who has become one of the Bundesliga superstars, leading the league in assists in the 2018/19 season (17) stated that then-Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic was not only a trailblazer for fellow Americans.
“The Manchester move from London was okay,” Sancho explained at a PR event. “I was still in England and I knew I could go back home. It was a bit further away but I could see the family every three weeks or so. Settling there was not a problem.”
“Dortmund was different. That was a big change, but they have a good history of playing young players and I believed what they said. Christian Pulisic was there – he was 18 at the time and was starting every week. I looked at him and felt I could compete with him.”
And compete he did. Sancho slowly but surely relegated the young American to the bench under Lucien Favre, before the latter completed his €55m-move to Chelsea.
