After Borussia Dortmund’s fantastic Champions League night, there are a few personnel worries. But there are also good news ahead of Sunday’s game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Dortmund’s winger Jadon Sancho limped out of Westfalenstadion on Tuesday night. The 19-year-old could not fit a shoe on his swollen left foot according to Ruhr Nachrichten.
During the scoreless draw against Barcelona in the opening matchday of the Group stages, Sancho had to take a lot of hits. 10 minutes into the second half, right-back Nelson Semedo stepped on the young Englishman’s foot in the box.
Marco Reus missing the ensuing penalty must have been doubly painful for Sancho, who could fit a shoe on his left foot during Dortmund’s marketing day on Wednesday.
Piszczek and Morey fit
On Wednesday the BVB players trained that did not play for the full 90 minutes against Barcelona. Right-back Lukasz Piszczek, who missed the last two games due to a muscular injury was back in training and right-back Mateu Morey is also fully recovered after suffering a dislocated shoulder injury in BVB’s DFB Pokal Match against KFC Uerdingen.
Dortmund still have to worry about their backup goalkeeper with both Marwin Hitz and Eric Oehlschlägel injured. Against Frankfurt, 22-year-old U-23 goalkeeper Jan Reckert will likely take the place on the bench.
Reckert was too old to be nominated to the Champions League matchday squad via the B-list, which is why on Tuesday night 19-year-old Jonas Hupe was the backup goalie.
There is no update on Nico Schulz’ return from injury yet. The 26-year-old has to worry about his starting spot after two outstanding performances by Raphael Guerreiro in his left-back position.
