Borussia Dortmund secured the vice-championship in the Bundesliga on Saturday by beating third-place RB Leipzig 2-0. Mateu Morey and Giovanni Reyna both made their Bundesliga starting debut.
“Morey played a really great game,” BVB midfielder Emre Can told the club’s press officer after the match about the starting debut of 20-year-old defender Morey. The Spaniard, who joined Dortmund from Barcelona’s under 19 at the start of the season, replaced the suspended right wing-back Achraf Hakimi against Leipzig.
Can said: “I was rooting for him to score the big chance he had. He is a young player who always trains hard and who was always waiting for his chance. Today he played an excellent game.”

“Mateu already had a couple of shorter stints and already provided an assist in Paderborn. He showed a very pleasant starting debut today. He was very secure on the ball, got stuck in, won the ball and overall defensively stable,” Sporting director Michael Zorc said after the game.
BVB showed a reaction after Mainz loss
Borussia Dortmund sit on 69 points after 33 Matchdays. Their second-place finish was briefly in doubt after the Westphalians lost 2-0 to Mainz on Wednesday. However, Lucien Favre’s men recovered from the loss on Saturday by decisively outplaying the fizzy drink manufacturers.
Can added: “We played really strong today. A big compliment goes out to the entire team. We absolutely wanted to win here today and secure the second place. We showed that from the first minute on. We wanted to show a different face after playing poorly against Mainz. We were very focused on the game. You could see that on the pitch.”
The midfielder, who joined BVB from Juventus at the winter break, will miss the final matchday against TSG Hoffenheim after receiving a fifth yellow card.
